Design Brief

CHALLENGE

Participants are tasked with designing a residential project that serves as the dream home for an architect. This includes the main house, living spaces, bedrooms, and any additional features you envision an architect dream home would possess. You also have the option to choose your idol architect and design a dream house for them. Emphasize creativity, innovation, and attention to detail.

SITE SELECTION

Participants should select a suitable site within an urban or suburban context of a maximum area of 1 acre. Accessibility, proximity to public transport hubs, and the potential for urban placemaking should be factored in, ensuring a seamless integration into the community. Crucially, participants should consult local by-laws and building codes.

ARCHITECTURAL AESTHETICS

Create a visually stunning and harmonious design that reflects the unique tastes and personality of an architect.

SPATIAL PLANNING

Optimize the use of space within the house to provide functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing spaces.

PRESENTATION QUALITY

Pay careful attention to the clarity, visual appeal, and storytelling aspect of your sheets.

INNOVATIVE FEATURES

Integrate innovative architectural elements and sustainable features, to showcase your creativity.

SUBMISSION

1. The project must be submitted using two (2) A1-sized sheets, whether in digital or hand-drawn format.
2. Floor plans should show furniture arrangements.
3. Site plan should show the orientation and connectivity of the building.
4. Elevations and sections of the building.
5. Materials and innovative construction techniques.
6. All drawings should be presented at a scale

Brief
RULES AND REGULATION

1. English is the designated language for all drawing-related communication.
2. The deadline for submission is 21 April, 2024; submissions received after this date will not be considered.
3. The registration fee is non-refundable.
4. Under no circumstances should participants contact the jury.
5. All participants are required to adhere to the competition's rules and regulations.
6. Failure to adhere to the rules may result in the disqualification of participants.
7. DISCOVER ARCH retains the right to adjust the competition schedule.

Who can participate?

The competition is open to architecture students and individuals with a keen interest in Architecture design. Participants must be enrolled in or have completed a recognized program.

Can I change team members after I register?

Participants are prohibited from swapping or removing any existing team members after registration. To make changes, please send your request to
contact.discoverarch@gmail.com with the details of the new team member requested. Include your team's unique code in the email.

What are the modes of submissions?

Participants are requested to submit their work in PDF format with up to 2 sheets (digital or hand-drafted). Include the DiscoverArch logo on each sheet.

What is the maximum team size allowed?

Each team can have a maximum of four members and cannot exceed this limit. Participants who wish to participate individually can do so by filling out and submitting the details as a team leader.
